North District Center Scholarships
The scholarships listed below are available to North District Center students. NDC students are also WHCC students and are eligible for WHCC scholarships.
All scholarships are paid in two installments on the first day of each semester upon verification of enrollment
NDC Scholarship
To support five annual scholarships in an amount no greater than $400 to students attending NDC, Firebaugh
- Student must be registered in a minimum of at least six units at NDC, Firebaugh each semester
- Minimum 2.75 GPA, which must be maintained for award second semester
- Must provide three current character references, i.e. by a teacher, employer, and counselor, coach or non-relative who knows your motivation (have all references complete recommendation form)
- Submit an essay of no more than 500 words type written, covering all of the topics listed below:
- Briefly describe your educational background
- Describe your current and past community involvement (offices held, club/team membership, project, etc.)
- Describe your work experience (paid volunteer)
- What are your career aspirations and why have selected this field
- What are your overall plans for the future
Conditions
- Preference to be given to students who are eligible for financial aid, including the BOGG (must get verified on application)
- Student eligibility for this scholarship is limited to six semesters
- Students who have already completed an associate degree or higher are not eligible
Bernard Osher Scholarship
Up to 16 scholarships per year will be awarded in amounts of up to $1,000
- Students attending must have completed 24 or more “degree applicable” semester units (or the equivalent) at the time of the initial scholarship disbursement
- Student must be enrolled in at least six or more units during all terms in which the award remains active
- Student must receive a CCC Board of Governor’s Fee Waiver
- Awards will be adjusted on enrolled status and determined as follows:
- Full-time(12 or more units per term) = up to $500/semester
- Three-quarter-time (9-11.99 units per term) = up to $375/semester
- Half-time (6-8.99 units per term) = up to $250/semester
- Students may apply for the scholarship for a second year
Teresa Anne Mendes Memorial
One annual scholarship in the amount of $1,000. Must be a Riverdale High School student planning to attend any WHCCD location
- Student must be enrolled full-time (12+ units)
- Student must be an entering freshman from Riverdale High School
- Minimum GPA 3.2
Estela Cranston Memorial
One annual scholarship in the amount of $500 given to a Coalinga High School graduate
- Student must be enrolled in 12+ units
- Minimum GPA 2.5
- Applicant must be a Coalinga High student
Barbara Devine Scholarship
One annual scholarship in the amount of $500
- Scholarship to be given to a Coalinga High, Faith Christian or Pleasant Valley Day student
Farm of the Future Scholarship
Up to eight annual scholarships in the amount of $500-$1,000 each
- Students must maintain 12+ units
- Minimum GPA of 2.5
- Student must be enrolled in WHC Precision Ag Program or be an Ag major
Fellowship of Christian Athletes
One annual book scholarship in the amount of $250
- Any major
- Student must be registered in 12+ units
J.D. Johnson Rodeo Memorial Scholarship
One to six annual scholarships in the amounts of $500-$3,000. These scholarship recipients are selected by the Rodeo Boosters Club.
- Students must be enrolled in 12+ units
- Scholarship is for vocational and /or associate degree students only
- Students must be entering freshman
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 required
- Student must be active in the Rodeo Program
J and R Rodriquez Enterprises Scholarship
One annual scholarship in the amount of $500
- Student must be enrolled in 12+ units
- Scholarship is awarded to university bound students
- Minimum GPA of 2.5 is required
- Liberal studies major preferred
Marlon Hall Jr. Scholarships
One annual scholarship in the amount of $500
- Applicant must have attended an accredited high school in the United States for a minimum of one-year, excluding California prior, to attending West Hills College
- When applying, applicant must be a full-time WHC freshman
- Minimum 2.7 grade point average during his/her first year at West Hills College
- Be a documented participant in one or more of the following student activities:
- intercollegiate athletics
- student government (ASB)
- WHC Coalinga organized student clubs
Norine Oliver Memorial Scholarship
One annual scholarships in the amount of $1,000
- Students must be registered in 12+ units
- Scholarships will be awarded to university bound students only
- Students must be a continuing or transfer student (to a four year college)
- A minimum GPA of 2.5 required
- Student must be majoring in one of the following: education, political science, history or social science
Phyllis Roberts Endowed Scholarship
One scholarship award per year in the amount of $500. International students are not eligible for this scholarship.
- Student must have a declared major
- Student must be registered full-time (12+units) degree applicable units
- Student must maintain a 2.5 GPA
- Student must be attending West Hills College Coalinga
- Student must have no more than 24 units at any other college or university
Rodeo Boosters Scholarship
A number of scholarships with amounts of up to $3,000 per scholarship will be given to students who must be academically eligible for college rodeo. These scholarship recipients are selected by the Rodeo Boosters Club.
- Student is eligible up to maximum of four semesters
- Student must be registered in 12+ academic units
- Student must be enrolled in WHC rodeo program classes each semester and be a member of or eligible to be a member of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association
Conditions
- Application must be accompanied by a letter of recommendation for this specific scholarship by the WHC Rodeo Program Director, who will also recommend an award amount to be given
- This scholarship is non-transferable to another college/ university
Foundation Book Voucher Scholarship
Two annual scholarships in the amount of a $150 book voucher
- Students must be registered in 12+ units
- A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required
Sawyers Endowed Scholarship
One annual scholarship in the amount of $1,000
- Student must be registered in 12+ units
- Scholarship is for university-bound students only
- Continuing or transfer students only (to a four year college)
- Education majors preferred
Single Parent Scholarship
One annual scholarship of $500 awarded district-wide
- Enrolled in a minimum of 6 units
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- Preference given to students who are single fathers or involved in issues related to single fathers
West Hills College Faculty Scholarship
To provide one scholarship for $500 at WHCC or NDC
- Must be incoming freshman or current registered student at either college
- Preferred applicant to be an immediate family member of a WHCCD employee
Wakefield Everett Award
One scholarship in the amount of $100
- Minimum GPA 3.75
- Humanities major
- Students must intend to continue collegiate education in Humanities
- Student must be graduating that academic year
Chevron
One annual scholarship in the amount of $300
- Students must be enrolled in at least six + units
- Minimum GPA of 2.0
- Given to students majoring in science or mathematics (if not available then with a concentration in the sciences or mathematics)
Nick and Edna Ivans Scholarship
One annual scholarship in the amount of $150 to a student at any WHCCD location
- Student must be enrolled in 12+ units
- Scholarship must be awarded to university bound students only
- Student must be a continuing or transfer student only (to a four year college)
Padilla Family Scholarship
One annual scholarship in the amount of $300 (available to students at any WHCCD location)
- Student must be enrolled in 12+ units
- Minimum GPA 3.0
- Avenal High School graduate
- Business or science major
Robert and Collette Keller Book Voucher Scholarship
One annual $250 book voucher scholarship
- Student must be registered in 12+ units
- Minimum 3.0 GPA required
Woodson Memorial Scholarship
One annual scholarship in the amount of $150
- Maintain a GPA of 3.0
- Science major
- Students must be registered in 12+ units
Watts Family Scholarship
Two annual scholarship in the amount of $600 (available to students at any WHCCD location)
- Student must be enrolled in 12+ units
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required
- Scholarship is for university bound student only
- Child Development major
Bob Viets Agricultural Studies Endowed Scholarship
One scholarship award per year in the amount of $1,000
- Student must be enrolled in 12 or more units at WHCC
- A minimum of six units each semester must be agriculture or ag-related courses
- Minimum 2.5 GPA
- Have attended an accredited high school in the U.S. for a minimum of one year
- Preference given to students demonstrating financial need
- Preference given to students whose parent or legal guardian is currently (or within the six months prior to application) has been employed in the agriculture/ranching industry in California
- Scholarship is renewable but limited to a maximum of four semesters
- This scholarship is non-transferable to another institution
Ann Harris Scholarship
One scholarship per year in the amount of $250
- Student must be enrolled in 12 or more units at WHCC
- Student must be a Theatre Arts major
ASB Scholarship
Three scholarships per year one to a transferring student in the amount of $200, two in the amount of $100 to continuing students.
Coalinga Area Chamber of Commerce Scholarship
Two scholarships per year in the amount of $250
- Student must be enrolled in 12 or more units at WHCC
- Student must be a continuing student or transferring student
- Minumum GPA 3.0
- Student must be seeking a Business degree
CSEA Scholarship
One scholarship per year in the amount of $500
- Parents must work for WHCC
- Minimum GPA 3.0
Stephen Orradre Scholarship
Two annual scholarships--one paid to a continuing student in the amount of $250 and one to a transfer student in the amount of $500
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required
- Agriculture or pre-veterinary major
- Enrolled in a minimum of 12 units
International Student Scholarship
Two scholarships per year in the amount of $250
- This scholarship is for continuing international students who are attending WHCC
- Minimum 3.0 GPA
- Students must turn in two letters of recommendation with their applications and must submit a statement about why they want to be a internantional student and attend WHCC
